Join the Gleam Team! Prepare for an exciting career in Dental Assisting
There is not likely to be a shortage of patients in the field of dentistry. In fact, a June 2012 survey* from the American Dental Association (ADA) shows that Americans need to try a little harder when it comes to oral health. When asked questions such as how often teeth should be cleaned, what causes cavities, and the age of a child’s first dental visit, the average survey score was a ‘D.’
The time is right to prepare for a career in this fundamental healthcare field.
At Herzing University in Minneapolis, the dental assisting diploma program prepare graduates for a wide range of work, including hands-on patient care and office scheduling, billing, and handling treatment records. Students can earn a diploma in dental assisting in about 16 months. Students learn about performing administrative tasks, chair-side assisting, lab procedures, and more.
Already earned a diploma? Credentialed students can work toward an associate of applied science in dental assisting in about 20 months. This program offers an up-to-date refresher in the diploma requirements, and includes the degree-required general education courses that can be rolled right into Herzing’s Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management program.
“Our students love our programs,” said Karri Bell, dental assisting program director. “They appreciate the personalized attention. The externship experience [Angela – is this offered in both programs? If not, you can add to “the externship experience in the AASDA program] is very popular. Our students are able to apply what they learn in a real work setting. It truly gives them the confidence and skills they need to go out and land a job.”
Herzing University recognizes the ongoing need for dental professionals in the community. They are currently offering two types of assistance for students interested in a rewarding career in oral healthcare.
“New diploma students are eligible to receive up to $1200 in scholarship funding,” Bell said. “And diploma grads enrolled in the AASDA program qualify for an $800 scholarship. But students must be enrolled and ready to begin classes by September 4, 2012 in order to qualify,” she said. Visit the Minneapolis campus website for additional information.
Convenient, flexible class scheduling
Herzing University offers day, evening and Saturday classes for students interested in enrolling in the dental assisting diploma program. They can attend classes on campus, online, or both.
“We really try to make preparing for a career as convenient for our students as possible,” Bell said. “Herzing University has a long history of working on behalf of students.”
